Immersing Corporate Practice in the Classroom: SteerCo Meeting Experience

The Project Management class facilitation of a SteerCo (Steering Committee) meeting allowed students to engage in one of the most widely used practices of managing stakeholders in the context of an organisation. Students made formal presentations that included their project updates, project reports, scope of work, and challenges being experienced. This initiative is intended to provide students with first-hand exposure to the working environment of a corporate organisation.

By presenting in front of stakeholders and having formally structured discussions, students also developed their confidence, communication skills, and understanding of project accountability. The experiential component of the project provided students with practical experience in all aspects of the planning and execution of the project and carried them beyond traditional classroom learning experiences.

As a result, students were able to complete their assignment and obtain practical experience in real-world project management practices.
